August 20, the contest of Object Detection in Aerial Images (ODAI) on International Pattern Recognition Conference (ICPR) 2018 was held successfully at the Beijing National Convention Center. The contest is led by the Captain Research Group of the National Key Laboratory of surveying and Mapping remote Sensing information engineering of Wuhan University, jointly organized by the University of Science and Technology, Cornell University, Rochester University, German Space Center, and Venice. The ODAI contest attracts more than 60 teams from all over the world, including German Aerospace Center, Korea satreci Company, Singapore NTU, American NT concepts, and China University of Science and Technology, Northwestern University of Technology and other well-known universities and research institutes.
The high resolution remote sensing image provides clearer ground object information, and the remote sensing image object detection has been widely concerned. However, the scene of remote sensing images is complex, the object of objects presents directional diversity, scale difference, quantity imbalance and small instance density, which makes remote sensing image object detection more difficult than traditional image object detection problem. The ODAI contest provides more than 2000 remote sensing images with a total of 211,581 instance targets in 15 categories. At the same time, this contest proposed the object detection (horizontal task) based on the horizontal bounding box and the object detection (oriented task) based on the oriented bounding box, which is the largest and most difficult remote sensing image target detection contest in the world at present. ODAI.
It is learnt that the international Pattern Recognition Conference (ICPR) began in 1972, is the International Pattern Recognition Federation (IAPR) Organization of Pattern recognition field of the flagship academic conference, Held every two years. The 24th session of the International Pattern Recognition Conference (ICPR) was held in the Beijing National Convention Center from August 20, 2018 to 24th, the first time in more than 40 years since its founding in mainland China. The meeting provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the forefront of the dynamic, broaden their horizons, and strengthen communication and cooperation of the Learning Exchange platform.
